Early last year I was approached by someone at a wedding. He went on…and on…and on…about how he didn’t understand photography as a profession. “All you do is click that button, how hard can it be?”
Good question, random man.
It had me thinking… how hard can it be? Are we really doing all that much? What if literally all I did was click a button?
I invited Ryan & Heather to Main St. Zionsville – a charming “downtown” spot with boutiques and a small park. They’ve never been professionally photographed which was important to me. I didn’t want anyone with experience posing themselves as most of my clients are first-timers!
For the first 15 minutes of the session, I put my camera in auto and followed them around. They chose the locations & posed themselves. I said *literally* nothing (and if you know me, you know that’s very difficult ha!). For post-processing I simply turned them to JPEGs.
For the last half of the session, I directed them as normal. It was an extremely windy, chilly, and DARK day adding to the challenges of an outdoor session. Once we got chatting & exploring we had such a blast!
Not only are the images better with proper composition, lighting, and post-processing, you can tell their comfort level increased; they’re more relaxed and natural.
So, sir, how hard can it be?
