Wooooop another year down! And with that also a decade. Am I writing this at 9pm the day after I wanted to? Yes. Why? Because my sweet Harvey boy has been sicker than a dog & he needs all the mama and dada snuggles in the world. ❤️
There are a lot of things I wanted to do this year – blog more, post more, take on more clients, start mentoring, ramp up my copywriting, blah blah. Hi, my name is Abbie and I’m a workaholic. 😩 There hasn’t been a time in my life when I wasn’t juggling *at least* 4 career paths until recently. As I reflect on this past decade, I cannot believe where I’ve ended up – can you relate?
I moved from Bloomington to Lafayette, got my degree in Biotechnology, and decided photography was something I wanted to pursue. After graduation, I met the love of my life, moved, and now I can officially call myself an Indy Wedding Photographer! This decade had highs and lows, but as I watch my sweet boy sleep on the monitor, I can say the good times certainly outweighed the bad.
Now for the best part! EEEEEK! This past year I also scaled up my business and seriously cried at how lucky I am more than once. The most incredible, sweet, and thoughtful humans trusted me with their wedding days, engagements, and surprise proposals. I decided to snag 4 of my favorite images from each and tell y’all a little about them. Part of this being so late is my indecisiveness in only selecting 4, I mean how unfair was past Abbie to future Abbie in that moment?! Here. We. Go. -Billy Eichner, anyone?
I started this year with a sweet wedding between high school sweethearts, Paige and Dylan. I can’t even remember what happened during the ceremony that had Paige cracking up, but every time I see that photo it makes me smile.
In March, two of my faaaavorite humans got engaged!! We worked *so hard* to turn their apartment into a candlelit dream and surprise Lexi.
Morgan & Trey took me back to where it first began – Rock Bottom Brewery. We had a great time with the restaurant to ourselves. Plus their beer is deeeelicious. 😋
Adam & Rachel did their engagement session at Oliver Winery & were married at his father’s church in Bloomington (my hometown!). Adam’s brother was also one of my grooms this year which made 2019 extra special!
In 2018 Ashley & Adam invited me to Chicago for their elopement. This year they came to me in Indy and we had a great time wandering the city. Next year is St. Louis and I’m soooo excited to keep capturing their anniversaries!
Swetha is one of my dearest friends & this year I was able to capture so many events for her and Kunal! Alongside their engagement pooja, party, sangeet, and reception, they flew me up to Minnesota for a weekend of photos!
David & Jocelyn actually attended the wedding of one of my 2018 couples and found me that way. Can you believe SHE MADE HER VEIL? Joy is the best word for these two lovebirds.
Brenda & Weston chose my favorite new spot – Holliday Park. We hiked down to the water and got some gorgeous shots at the ruins!
Matt & Betsy actually had their large wedding in London where they live, but came back to the Indy area for a fun reception with Betsy’s friends and family who weren’t able to attend. I love that we were able to capture one giant picture of everyone!
Meagan & Luke’s first engagement session got rained out and of *course* it actually turned out to be a gorgeous evening. That’s Indiana for you! Thankfully our make up day was just as beautiful. On their wedding day we also snagged my favorite bridal party photo at Holcomb Gardens!
For Alec and Heather’s engagement they brought me up to Fort Wayne. We had a great time exploring the conservatory but eventually got kicked out. 😂 oops! Their wedding day had some of the *best* light imaginable.
These two won my engagement session giveaway! Aimee and I actually went to the same school in our small town. It was fun seeing her with Jeremy and catching up.
Back in the day I worked with Kirsten & Sean at O’Charley’s where they met & started their relationship. To be there for this day was amazing! Plus they brought Buddha, so I was super happy haha!
Another great wedding for friends from O’Charley’s! Roberto & Katie chose the Blue Dress Barn in Michigan for their wedding & it was everything you would expect from these two… full of fun & the loveliest details!
Allison & Henry eloped in Hawaii but wanted to get engagements here first. We started on IU’s campus where they met & finished at her father’s private residence. I loved getting to snuggle their two pups!
Brianna & I have known each other for a long time from school & she is how Adam and Rachel found me (above)! They also had their wedding at Nathan’s father’s church. So special to see these families twice in one year!
It was suuuper cold but you wouldn’t be able to tell! Mike and Jaclyn were such troopers & they brought their doggies! Plus Jaclyn’s emerald dress was everyyyyything! 😍
This year I got to second shoot 7 weddings with Alison. Her husband Zach always comes along and helps with anything you need. These two have such wonderful spirits. I got to take out Tiffany for some hands-on mentoring with these two and we had a great time!
Living in Indiana means you have to be ready to reschedule anytime. Amanda & Laszlo’s original engagement session date got rained out & we were about to get into winter. We had a great idea to snap a few images for save the dates and move their official session to the spring!
Luke and Annie were sooo fun and up for anything! Another cold November day but they braved it for some amazing photos.
Laura and Bogdan are some of Adam and my’s best friends! I captured their proposal at Newfield’s Winter Lights last year and they decided to do 4 seasons of engagements. For fall we went to Newfield’s Harvest Fest!
And just as a really nice visual – this is me re-enacting my performance as a fake homeless person on a bench waiting for Bogdan & Laura to round the corner for their proposal. 😂 Except it was winter so think a bigger jacket & like 3 scarves wrapped around my head.
Speaking of great friends – Nykki and Jon had their engagement session this year, too!! Nykki worked with Adam at Shane Co. and now she & I have become a wedding powerhouse. 😉
My last session of the year was with Matt and Mallory. Matt got her ring from Nykki & they were discussing proposal ideas when he brought up Winter Lights. She referred him to me and the rest is history! Y’all would not believe what I had to do to make sure I was front and center here, haha. Mallory was *so* surprised and of course said yes!
What a seriously great year 2019 turned out to be. I can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store!
